Scope and Topics

The school will address all the current topics of the GDRi Mecano:

  • Mechanics of nano-objects:

Size effect on stress and strain, Strain mapping and engineering, Fatigue, Brittle to ductile transition, Defect nucleation and propagation, Structural/interfacial stability, …

  • Experimental and modeling methods:

Growth and shaping methods (FIB, Plasma FIBs, Physical/Chemical Vapor deposition, lithography…)
Nanomechanical testing, Indentation, In situ methods, Electron and ionic microscopy, X-Ray…
Ab initio, Molecular dynamics, Discrete Dislocation Dynamics, Finite Element Method…

  • Nano- and –Micro objects:

Thin films, nanoparticles, nanocrystals, micropillars, nanobeams, multilayers…

Format

The school will start Sunday Oct 28th, evening and will end Friday Nov 2nd, noon.

Classes will be given in the morning. An afternoon break will take place from 14:00 to 17:00. Short lectures (20 min) on advance topics will be given before and eventually after dinner.  A call for abstract will be sent in March (submission March-June) for these talks and posters. A poster session/café will take place Thursday afternoon. An additional poster session may be organized depending on the number of posters.

Venue, Acomodation

IESC, Cargèse. Housing is split between local rooms and apartments/rooms at the village.

Breakfasts, lunches and coffee breaks are included in the lodging fee. The conference dinner will take place Thursday night on site. A light dinner will be served Sunday night. The other diners will be at the attendees' discretion.

Transportation

A bus will be departing at 18h45 from Ajaccio airport on Sunday and will leave IESC at 13:00 on Friday.

Back and forth trips to Ajaccio may be organized on urgent requests (Institute's car) or using public transportation (one bus/day): http://www.corsicabus.org/busAjaccio/AJA_Cargese_Po.html

There is no registration fee for the school. The fees are only for lodging.
